FERME AUX MONZIOLS

On the Causse Sauveterre, the hamlet of Monziols testifies of a long agricultural activity which still continues today. One of the farms, dating from the 18th century, offers a nice overview The buildings are organized around an inner courtyard and the main facade is the most remarkable element: it presents an elegant high gallery opened by five arcades.

On the Causse Sauveterre, the hamlet of Monziols testifies to a long agricultural activity which still persists today. The breeding, associated with the cereal culture, shaped both the landscapes and the buildings. One of the farms offers a beautiful glimpse of this past: it is located slightly away from the hamlet. Organized around an inner courtyard, the buildings are made of limestone. The main facade is the most elaborate, with its high gallery opening onto the courtyard through five arcades, which serves the dwellings and the wings of the other buildings. The building was connected to a barn by a passageway

This farmhouse seems to have been built from 1702 onwards (date inscribed on the door of the barn-cum-stable) but especially around 1725 as indicated on the main arcade of the gallery

By observing this elegant composition, one likes to imagine the daily life of its inhabitants, punctuated by the work of the fields on the causse.
