ANCIENNE MINE D'ARGENT DU BOCARD

In Vialas, the deposit of a precious metal was rediscovered in 1781: silver. Reduced to the state of remains today after production ceased in 1895, the site comprises a complex of buildings built of micaschist and granite, including a foundry and its manufacturing workshops. An interpretive trail on the site allows you to discover the history of the site!

Although Lozère is not a land of industry, it has not remained aloof from the industrial revolution of the 19th century. The extraction of the earth's riches gave rise to a small mining industry.

In Vialas, in the foothills of Mont Lozère, the deposit of a precious metal was rediscovered in 1781: silver. The silver-bearing vein was immediately exploited by specialized companies from Villefort, and the site was gradually developed throughout the 19th century.

Reduced to the state of remains today after production ceased in 1895, the site comprises a complex of miscaschist and granite buildings, including a foundry and its manufacturing workshops.

The plant was powered first by water (bypass canal), then by heat (steam engine).
