In Vialas, the deposit of a precious metal was rediscovered in 1781: silver. Reduced to the state of remains today after production ceased in 1895, the site comprises a complex of buildings built of micaschist and granite, including a foundry and its manufacturing workshops. In Vialas, in the foothills of Mont Lozère, the deposit of a precious metal was rediscovered in 1781: silver. The silver-bearing vein was immediately exploited by specialized companies from Villefort, and the site was gradually developed throughout the 19th century.

The plant was powered first by water (bypass canal), then by heat (steam engine).
