MUSÉE DE L'ANCIEN COUVENT DES URSULINES

The building was occupied by the Ursuline nuns from 1618 to 1792, renowned in the region for the quality of their teaching. The originality of this building is hidden in the nun's lodge where the murals represent a Virgin and Saint Magdalene in meditation surrounded by fruits and plants. It is a very rare testimony of wall paintings expressing popular devotion

During the 17th and 18th centuries (from 1618 to 1792), the Ursuline nuns established in Le Malzieu brought to the town an undeniable reputation for the quality of the education they provided to the young girls of the region

Today, the former Ursuline convent is a museum run by volunteers and the town hall of Le Malzieu-Ville

From the outside, one notices a beautiful symmetry and a perfect harmony of the proposals as with a beautiful alignment of crossed windows.

The originality is to be found inside with three levels presenting a remarkable example of wall paintings. The masterpiece is the ursuline cell whose paintings, recently restored, show the Virgin Mary, Saint Magdalene in meditation and a floral decoration painted on the wood

The museum houses a permanent collection of sacred art composed of vestments and liturgical objects, as well as a temporary exhibition which is renewed every year.
