VILLAGE DE LA ROUVIÈRE
The small village of La Rouvière is attached to the commune of Pelouse. In addition to its Romanesque church, the village retains an interesting built heritage. We will note several old farms with their beautiful entrances with very neat limestone frames. In the centre of the village there is a bread oven with a fireplace. Nearby is a large granite cross. The shaft is a monolithic column ending in an ionic capital. Both sides of the cross are carved: Christ on the cross on one side and the Virgin on the other. From the treatment of these figures it is thought that this cross dates from the 18th century. Thus the date 1811 on the base would refer to a repair or a change of place
The ferradou (work to shoe the oxen) is one of the last wooden crosses preserved in Lozere. It is made of four posts from which are still suspended the straps which were used to hold the oxen.
