The ancient village of Cocurès, which is now part of the Bedouès-Cocurès commune, is located on a small promontory overlooking the Tarn, in the heart of the small valleys that form the Bougès mountain. The village church, built in the 19th century, has a large collection of painted decorations which are well worth a visit.

The ancient village of Cocurès, which is now part of the Bedouès-Cocurès commune, is located on a small promontory overlooking the Tarn, within the small valleys that form the Bougès mountain. Its high position could explain the origin of its name, the Gallic word kuk-(o) would mean "rounded summit".

The rocks of the mountain (dark schist and light limestone, easier to cut) form the main materials used for construction, which explains this singular association of dark and light stones for most of the houses

Having lived for a long time from agriculture and crafts (presence of many weavers and merchants), Cocurès is a village of restful calm that offers a pleasant walk

The church, built in the 19th century to replace the old one which was too damaged by the ravages of time, houses a large collection of painted decorations which is well worth a visit.
