VILLAGE DE CHANGEFÈGE

Located on the Causse of the same name, the village of Changefège is a typical Caussen village.

Set on the south-facing slope, protected from the north winds, the village is organized around its sectional bread oven (collectively owned by all village owners).

Next to it was a "ferradou" (cattle-shoeing loom).

All that remains are the four uprights to support the straps and take the load off the steer while the shoes are put on. This operation enabled the steers to work in fields where the profusion of stones would have damaged their hooves too much.

A number of houses have retained their original layout, with a main building, sometimes topped by a dovecote, and one or more farm buildings.

Each house had its own cistern, and the village fountain is several dozen meters below the village.

Nearby attractions include a "lavogne" for watering livestock, the fountain and dolmen, and a cast-iron cross with an adoring Virgin Mary.
