Palhers was originally the seat of the commandery of the Knights of the Temple. The name Palhers comes from the Occitan translation of "straw barn". Surrounded by numerous farmers and craftsmen, the commandery remains prosperous and
powerful until 1332. It was then passed on to the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem until the French Revolution, when it became a national asset
