GRANDRIEU

The name Grandrieu comes from the settlement of the dwellings on a rocky spur between two streams, the "ru" of the Medes and the great "rieu" that a so-called Roman bridge crosses.

The highest point is at the rock of Fenestre at 1486 metres above sea level. The canton is crossed by the via Agrippa

The cross on St. Michael's Square seems to date from the 17th century. Its prismatic crosspiece has bubbles. On the reverse is a naive Christ and a mysterious inscription. Only the cross is black and contrasts with the light colour of the shaft.
