With Daunas de Còr, Pyrenean polyphony explores and reveals its most feminine colors. Rooted in the Occitan language that shapes their songs, drawing on the supple, lively energy of polyphonic sound, like other Pyrenean female voices, the singers of Daunas de Còr possess a rich vocal culture equal to that of the great singers of Sardinia or the great Balkan singers. For them, singing is not just something to be received in concert, but is generously given in moments of social practice, ringing out the space of festive ritual. This singing, inherited "from the elders and the ancients", possesses a real savoir-faire, with vocal techniques skilfully elaborated by successive generations and patiently transmitted, slowly learned and incorporated.
From solo singing to three-, four- or five-part polyphony, the repertoire ranges from sacred Bigorre polyphonies to songs for unmarried women or emancipated girls, with some light-hearted or humorous arrangements.
