ERMITAGE SAINT PRIVAT

According to Gregory of Tours, in the 3rd century, the Alamans invaded Gabale territory.

Chrocus, their leader, asks Privat to hand over his people. Privat refused and was martyred in a cave on the north-facing slope of Mont-Mimat.

Legend has it that he was locked in a barrel bristling with inward-pointing nails and thrown from the top of Mont-Mimat.

In the early Middle Ages, his tomb became an important place of pilgrimage.

Hermits and colleges of priests were established here.

In 1850, the chapel was built, and in 1873, the last hermit, Brother Joseph Laget, transformed the site. He built a residence and in 1881 redid the stations of the cross.

In 1960, Father Durand opened a reception center after building a 50-room residence.
