EGLISE SAINT-JULIEN - BLAVIGNAC

It presents the most advanced example in Gévaudan of geometrical decorations from the first half of the 16th century. In the 18th century, the activity of mural painting is very intense and always takes up the same themes: the dove of the Holy Spirit, sacred vases, flowers and garlands of fruit.

The parish church of Saint-Julien was the seat of a former priory-cure dependent on the chapter of Marvejols. It has older parts that may date back to the 13th century, but the whole must belong to the 15th and 16th centuries.

It is a small building, but the granite structure is very neat. On the outside, a portal with Gothic arches opens on the south side of the second bay of the nave. It is surmounted by an archivolt decorated with three sculpted figures. An elegant bell-tower rises above the triumphal arch. It is pierced by four semicircular arches, topped by a bell-shaped bay, decorated on the south side with dripstones and two sculpted figures.
