EGLISE NOTRE-DAME DE L'ASSOMPTION DE ST-CHÉLY DU TARN

The church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in St-Chély du Tarn, listed as a Historic Monument, was mentioned as early as 1155. It depended on the priory of Ste-Enimie. The orange colour of the building comes from the materials used: limestone and tuff. It contains elements of very beautiful bills, like the Corinthian capitals which support the triumphal arch.

The orange colour of the building comes from the materials used for its construction, limestone and tuff

Inside, it consists of a single nave separated from the choir by a grid, which opens onto a polygonal apse decorated with a five-sided arch, completed by two apsidioles

A certain amount of care is taken with the triumphal arch, with its two double arches falling on columns, one of which is decorated with Corinthian capitals. Two chapels forming a transept were also built near the choir, each housing an altar framed by columns and topped by a triangular pediment

The whole church is painted with a light plaster, except for the vault of the apse, which is painted with a starry sky, and the two chapels, which are covered by a pale blue.
