EGLISE NOTRE-DAME

"According to legend, a farmer discovered a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary while ploughing his field at the beginning of the 11th century. The first church would have been built at that time. The first document mentioning the church dates from 1365. Devotion to the Virgin Mary attracts many pilgrims.

In the 14th century, indulgences were granted for the construction of a bridge to facilitate access for pilgrims. The present church dates back to the beginning of the 15th century.

During the Wars of Religion, Quézac was looted and devastated. In 1577, the Catholics took back the city. In 1579, Captain Merle burned the church three times. The church was also mutilated during the Revolution.

Of the church built in the 15th century only the south porch remains. Covered by a toric ribbed vault, it is flanked by two prismatic piles which allow us to date it to the end of the 14th century [...]".
