EGLISE DE GABRIAS

The Church of the Holy Innocents was under the name of Our Lady in the Middle Ages. Gabrias at that time was just a farmhouse. In 1420 it was called the mas of Gabrias.

Notre Dame de Gabrias was a priory founded in the 12th century. The presence of a burial place in the chapel of the Holy Virgin bears witness to the presence of coffins. Indeed, in the Middle Ages it was common for a prior, a monk, or the parish priest to be buried under a chapel

This Romanesque church will take a considerable importance in the parish since 1412. At this date the prior Jean Novelli writes his will. His last wishes demanded that the church of Gabrias be seen as the central place of the parish

After the destruction of the church of Saint Petronilla, Our Lady of Gabrias became the church of the parish

1424 marks the erection of the collegiate church of Notre Dame de la Carce in Marvejols, Gabrias is now part of it
