The lake of Saint-Andéol is one of the strongest symbols of Aubrac being the only lake of the plateau to be endowed with a surprising history
Called the "Christianized pagan lake", the lake of Saint-Andéol hosted, during Antiquity and at least since the 3rd century, particular processions. The legend says that Saint Andéol undertook to Christianize the local populations to make them abandon pagan customs in this place. However, despite this intervention, these processions were still taking place at the end of the 19th century with clothes and food being thrown into the lake
A 19th century cross dominates the expanse of the lake and offers a magnificent panorama for the seasoned hiker. At the time, a chapel dedicated to Saint Hilaire also stood on the heights of the lake. Today, there are no remains of this building.
