CROIX EN PIERRE AU BORN
The village of Le Born has 3 stone crosses. Joseph Ignon reports a tradition that attributes these crosses to Jean du Born, a stonemason working on the cathedral of Mende in the 18th century. He is said to be the author of several other crosses in neighbouring communes. They are all characterized by the presence on one face of a Christ on the Cross and on the other of a Virgin in adoration
The first cross is located in the north of the village and dominates a vast panorama. Entirely made of granite, its monolithic shaft is planted in a pyramidal base on which it is difficult to guess the date of 1739
The second is located in the centre of the village, Place de la Chape. More than three meters high, it has a slender and fluted shaft. The sculptures are very simple. The date of erection can be read on the base: 1773.
The third one is located at the western exit of the village. Only one side is carved and bears a Christ on the Cross. The shaft and the pedestal have been repaired.
