CHAPELLE DU CIMETIÈRE DE SAINT-CHÉLY-D'APCHER
Known as the oldest monument in the town of Saint-Chély d'Apcher, the chapel named "Sancti Yieri de Capoleg" was the first parish church in the town from the beginning of the 12th century until 1689. It is Romanesque and only has an apse and two side chapels built of granite stone. The building is topped by an imposing wrought iron cross.
The chapel in cemetery no. 1 is the oldest religious building in the town of Saint-Chély d?Apcher. In fact, it was named "Sancti Yieri de Capoleg" as early as the beginning of the 12th century, in 1109. It was also the town?s first parish church until 1689, when the parish was transferred to the church of Saint-Hilaire within the town walls.
Built in the Romanesque style, all that remains of the church is an apse and two side chapels built of granite stone. Its pointed-arch portal is topped by an oculus. The building is crowned by an imposing wrought-iron cross featuring Christ on the Cross. The ends of the branches are decorated with finials.
The chapel is closed and not open to the public.
