CHAPELLE DES BEAUMES

The chapel of Beaumes is a Romanesque pilgrimage chapel, built at the top of a hillock overlooking the valley of the Borne. It is one of the rare examples of Romanesque sculpted portal still preserved.

The care taken in the ornamentation of its portal is remarkable: indeed, the two semi-circular arches are decorated with decorative motifs among which one recognizes in alternation animals, characters, floral or geometrical motifs, the whole crowned by a sawtooth frieze serving as archivolt.
