CHAPELLE DE SAINTE THÈCLE
This chapel is a historical place of undeniable charm, accompanied by a unique view. Let yourself be carried away by all the adventures experienced by this sanctuary...
The chapel sits on a terrace, from where the eye enjoys a splendid panorama. When was it founded? No known document can answer this question. However, its foundation can be traced back to the origins of Christianity. In the 16th century after the passage of the Protestants this sanctuary was in ruins. Its restoration is due to a priest, the abbot Pezet, of Soulages (canton of Laguiole) who was appointed parish priest of Saint-bonnet in 1663. In 1637, the chapel was repaired and returned to worship.
The sanctuary was ruined again during the French Revolution and remained dilapidated until 1822. A Christian J.B. Grousset agreed to become a hermit of Ste Thècle. He quêta for 2 years in the countryside and in 1824 the place was restored.
The fountain in 1640 flowed in the chapel, at the foot of the altar. Later it was outside, sheltered within the walls that support the terracing of the garden.
