CHAPELLE DE SAINT-PIERRE-LE-VIEUX

The present building would date from the 13th or 14th century, even though St. Peter's Church was founded in the 11th century. Since 1846, it is no longer the seat of the parish of the commune. The damage caused during the 16th century particularly modified the structure of the church. Only a vestige of the bell-tower-wall remains and a new portal in tiers-point was built on the south façade.

The church of Saint-Pierre could have been founded in the 11th century by the abbey of Chaise-Dieu (Haute-Loire). However, the present building would date from the 13th or 14th century

Listed in 1986 as a Historic Monument, the church of Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux has a beautiful granite stone structure. Following the destruction of the village by Mathieu Merle in the sixteenth century and a second time following the Revolution, the structure of the church of Saint-Pierre was particularly affected. A new entrance was created with the construction of the south portal in the sixteenth century and there remains only a remnant of the old bell tower-wall above the triumphal arch destroyed during the Revolution.

Since 1846, the church is no longer the seat of the parish of the commune, which has been transferred to the church of Vareilles.

Even older remains have been found on the church grounds.
