MUSEE ARCHEOLOGIQUE DE JAVOLS
The archaeological museum presents, under the archaeological angle, the discoveries and objects resulting from the excavations of the ancient capital of Gévaudan, Anderitum.
The Department of Lozère created the archaeological museum in 1998 and entrusted its management to the community of communes of the Hautes terres de l'Aubrac for the mediation of the site.
Focused on daily life and the principles of archaeology - the setting in situation - the presentation of the Museum of Javols is based on two major pieces, respectively located on the two levels:
- A milestone (a kind of mile marker)
- A life-size statue of the Gallo-Roman forest god Silvain-Sucellus
Free outdoor visit of the site, a walking tour of 19 panels (~ 1h). Map available in front of the museum at any time of the year.
Under certain conditions and upon registration, visit of the site accompanied by a mediator, using headphones and digital images (ask the museum for information)
