PLATEAU DE CHARPAL
The Plateau de Charpal is largely wooded, but it has retained an exceptional concentration of peat bogs (complex of priority habitats), including the largest in Lozere, since they can cover up to 25 hectares.

It is one of the most interesting sites in Languedoc-Roussillon for the conservation of peat bogs: there are several stages of development and transition facies to wet meadows. These typical acidic peat bogs are associated with moors and spiked lawns.
It is one of the 2 sites in the Region where the orchid Hammarbya paludosa is found, next to the Lycopodium
inundatum very rare in Languedoc.
Note also the presence of the Otter (Lutra lutra).
