The Allier is one of Europe's last great wild rivers, but it's also a land rich in preserved and enhanced heritage: picturesque villages, Romanesque churches, wall paintings, rock castles, the tourist train between Langeac and Langogne, which will appeal to adventurous spirits as well as nature-lovers who come to recharge their batteries in the wake of the salmon.
The GR 470 Sources et Gorges de l'Allier is :
- 200 km of paths and tracks marked in white and red (94km in Lozère)
- 9 to 11 days' walking
- A mid-mountain itinerary with altitudes ranging from 450 to 1500 m
- 2 route options (Gorges option or Margeride option)
- Return by train
