LAC DE VILLEFORT

The lake is a large body of water of 127ha, due to an artificial reservoir of the Villefort dam. Its construction began in 1956 and the impoundment took place in 1964, submerging the Bayard valley and forcing about twenty families to leave their homes.

This water reservoir is used primarily for the production of electricity. When the level of the lake is low, you may be lucky enough to see some remains sunk under the waters of a 19th century bridge, which was not destroyed during the impounding.

The lake is home to brown and rainbow trout, minnow and chub

Many activities are available to discover the lake: hiking, fishing, supervised beach, canoeing, windsurfing, pedal boats, etc..
