Discreet river of medium mountains, main tributary of the Lot, the Truyère crosses the Massif Central on nearly 170km. It rises in Lozère at an altitude of 1450m in the heart of the Margeride mountains

In its acidic waters, a fario trout with a well marked pigmentation evolves, very turned to bright yellow when the fish "takes the sun" on the sandy bottom.

Populations of minnows and gudgeons, then chub in the lower part of the river, mingle with the native trout populations. Downstream of the Malzieu, a few perch and pike from the Grandvals reservoir, which the Truyère feeds, come to compete with the trout in its search for food

Throughout the department of Lozère, the Truyère is classified in 1st category.
