📍 Peyre en Aubrac
ROC DE PEYRE
Overlooking the spectacular Vallée de l'Enfer, Roc de Peyre is an imposing volcanic peak that once held the fortress of the barony of Peyre. This bastion, nicknamed the "eagle's nest", was long considered invincible before being razed in the 15th century by Admiral de Joyeuse, in retaliation for Mathieu Merle's exactions in Gévaudan.
Today, although the château has completely disappeared, the site has been developed for visitors, with a parking lot and a signposted path. Once at the top, secured by railings, an orientation table allows visitors to decipher an exceptional 360° panorama.
