CASCADE DE RUNES
Located at the entrance to the hamlet of Runes, the waterfall descends 60 m over the river Miral. It is reached by a steep and secure path that follows the stream.
The entire Runes waterfall is almost sixty metres high with two falls, one 46 metres high plunging into a 7 metre deep chasm and the other 24 metres deep
The stream originates in the granite rocks of Mont-Lozère and flows into the Tarn.
It is an exceptional type of landscape for the Cévennes and Lozère. Carved into the rock, the waterfall offers a place of coolness and shade during your walk.
At the start of the waterfall there is an engraved stone: a dragon biting its tail is depicted. Inside the circle it is written: "From earth to heaven and from heaven to earth". Local legend has it that a few Vikings wandering on Mount Lozere at the end of the first millennium wrote this message.
