"A bit of history: construction began in 1920 to create a pedestrian bridge across the Chapeauroux at a place called "Ussel", and was thus called the "USSEL footbridge".
The footbridge was built by the villagers themselves; formerly made of wood, it was decided by the town council at the time to reinforce it by rebuilding it in metal.
It was rebuilt in iron by Mr. François Hillaire in 1936.
More than 100 years later, the Auroux town council decided to restore this piece of the town?s heritage. It had been damaged by bad weather and flooding, and had to be closed to the public for several years due to its dangerous condition.
Work began in May 2022 and was completed at the end of October 2022, when it was inaugurated in the presence of numerous personalities from the State, the Département and the Région.
Today, hikers, tourists and local residents can use it in complete safety.
