MAISON DITE GOTHIQUE A VILLEFORT
"The house is located on the old Régordane road that drained trade from central France to the south. This route through Villefort was very popular in the Middle Ages and was also used by pilgrims on their way to St. Gilles." Information from the Mérimée base
The house is located on the old Régordane road which drained the trade of the center of France towards the south. This road through Villefort was very busy in the Middle Ages and was also used by pilgrims to Saint-Gilles. The street is still lined with craftsmen's or merchants' houses, which are characterised by the presence of twin doors, most of them segmental arches, and a pedestrian door.
This house has, on the first floor, two large paired bays with a moulded pointed arch resting on columns with decorated bases and capitals which framed an opening whose mullion and three-lobed infills have largely disappeared. They probably date from the 14th century.
The purpose of this house remains unknown. Perhaps it was the consular hall".
