"The so-called "tourmente" bell towers were built in the Mont Lozère region, in hamlets without churches. Their functions were formerly diversified (angelus, knell, call for the communal school, prevention against hailstorms, sound signal for people lost in the fog).
They are similar to the type of wall-belfry with a single bay with a semi-circular arch and are built on a rectangular base, tapering towards the top. They are all topped by an iron or stone cross. In addition to its bell tower, the hamlet of Fage has a whole heritage linked to social and economic life: bread oven, cross with holy water font, work to shoe oxen, fountain and drinking trough.
