CHATEAU DU TOURNEL
The imposing ruins of the Tournel castle still bear witness to the presence of this 12th century barony, which dominated the whole of Mont Lozère from the Causse de Mende to Vivaret.
The imposing ruins of the Tournel castle still bear witness to the presence of this 12th century barony, which dominated the whole of Mont Lozère from the Causse de Mende to Vivaret. Several members of the Tournel family distinguished themselves by their poetic works. Two troubadouresses, Iseult de Chapieu and Azalaïs d'Altier, wrote famous poems in Oc language in the 13th century. Nowadays, the castle is being restored. Once inside the walls of the castle, you can admire the vaulted rooms, but also the panorama on the valley of the lot and the magnificent view on the Mont Lozère.
