CHATEAU DE SAINT-SATURNIN DE TARTARONNE

A former royal fief, the castle of Saint-Saturnin, richly linked to the history of France, almost disappeared at the beginning of the century. 25 years later, it has been brought out of oblivion and reborn thanks to an identical restoration.

Castle dating from the beginning of the XIVth century, reworked in the XVIth and XVIIth centuries, in the heart of a charming Lozerean village, nested in the circus of Saint Saturnin (Causse de Sauveterre). Former royal fief, the construction of the castle, initiated by the Comtors de Montferrand as of XIIe century, is remarkable and is equipped with the last royal keep of Gévaudan.

In 1995, a family descended from Amphélise de Montferrand, mother of the Gévaudanese Pope Urbain V, bought the ruins of the castle and embarked on a long restoration campaign. It was classified as a Historic Monument in November 1995 for both its history and its architecture.
