CHÂTEAU DE SAINT-JULIEN-D'ARPAON

The ruins of the Château de Saint-Julien-d'Arpaon are located on the cliff overlooking the eponymous village

The first mentions of the castle date back to the 13th century, when the lords of Anduze owned the barony of Florac.

In 1618 the castle was dismantled while the Gabriac family owned it. In the 18th century, the castle was inherited by the de Montcalm family from Rouergue. This family will restore the building but the castle will suffer the effects of time and, currently, it is in ruins

Nevertheless, you will be able to observe the remains of numerous round arches, a watchtower, a vast low room with a pointed arch and even a dovecote built directly into the castle's carcass.

Note: Please be very careful in a ruin. Above all, do not climb any walls and do not run. The risk of receiving a stone is important.
